Sunny Weekend

Tom and Evie were in town visiting Jill and her family this weekend, so yesterday we went out to Jill's house for a cookout. The weather was beautiful and we were able to sit out on their deck, surrounded by woods, which was so nice.  They really have a great yard, and have a lot of landscaping plans in mind. Hayden and Halle both had dance performances on Saturday, so Tom and Evie were in town as the proud grandparents. We had a yummy dinner of barbecued chicken, sauteed beets and greens, corn on the cob, and farfalle! It was great to see everyone, especially the girls, who keep getting taller! And on Friday night, we got to see my nephew Pat's son, Jack (I guess he is my great nephew?), for dinner. We went into DC and met Jack at Matchbox for dinner and got to hear all about his internship in DC, which it seems like he has enjoyed and he definitely has liked living in the city. He leaves next week to go back to school at Cincinnati. We had terrible storms on Friday night, so it was kind of a harrowing drive downtown.

Tour de Cure through town
Yesterday morning we took a long walk through town, which was interesting because this was Festival Weekend, so there was a lot going on, people setting up their booths, getting all the rides ready, the food stands were opening up, and there was a 10K race going through town, as well as a Tour de Cure. So there was a lot happening even before the Festival actually opened for the last day on Sunday. A lot of us who have lived here for a long time are totally over the Festival and pretty much stay away from it all weekend.  We can hear the music and watch the fireworks from our house, so that's good enough for me.
