Easter and Happy Birthday Jackson

Julia and Jackson
We had a nice Easter, with beautiful spring weather, and Julia home for the weekend. On Saturday Julia and I treated ourselves to an afternoon in D.C.  We had lunch first at La Ruche, our favorite little French cafe in Georgetown, and had French onion soup, quiche, and salad, our favs, and then we headed over to the Kennedy Center to see a performance of the New York City Ballet.  It was fun to be at the ballet again-- it was a varied program and we liked most of it, but didn't really like the "West Side Story" dance on the program.

We had a big breakfast on Easter morning and then Walt and I went off for a walk at Meadowlark Gardens because it was such a beautiful morning, while Julia stayed home to do some school work. Meadowlark used to have a great collection of lilacs that I was hoping to see, but I was disappointed that most of those lilacs have died and they don't seem to be replacing them.

Easter morning--mimosas and school work
In the afternoon we went over to the Lange's for dinner, picking up my nephew Pat's son, Jack,  at the metro station in Bethesda. We had a great time, beginning with the annual egg hunt, which you can imagine is Brooks's favorite part of the day. Bob did inform him, though, that 35 is the age limit, so not too many years left for him to hunt eggs! The Easter bunny had done a good job of hiding eggs, as 3 eggs were never found, despite the best efforts of Julia, Keenan, Jackson, and Jack.  It was Jackson's 15th birthday (how can Jackson be 15?), so Carol made a delicious dinner of pork, roasted brussels sprouts, rice, and corn pudding, all Jackson's favorites. Dessert was cupcakes made by Carol and Keenan, and decorated with a golf motif, in honor of the Masters. We all watched Bubba win the Masters, and the kids played some ping pong in the basement. It was great having Jack with us and hearing about his internship and how he is liking Washington, D.C. (he is). Carol's mom Joyce was in town too from California, so we had quite a party.  Bob and Carol have a really lovely yard, so you know I was looking around and checking things out. Bob has been doing a lot of work, moving plants around and clearing out some areas for new plantings.

Julia left this morning around 8 to drive back to Chapel Hill, where she has 3 more weeks of school and then she is off to Atlanta for her summer internship.

  1. We had an easter egg hunt at Maryanns but anyone over 21 had to be a hider, not a hunter. Did Brooks by any chance go to the White House today for the egg roll on the lawn?
